Goal-Setting the Proximal Way

Goal-setting and the evaluation of goal outcomes were viewed as most significant when striving for efficient practice (Lehmann, 1997). Musicians, who were more organized in their practice, tended to achieve at a higher rate; therefore, instructors should ensure their students are equipped with focused goalsĀ (Miksza, 2007; Sloboda, 1996).

Proximal Goals Are:

  • specific
  • short-term
  • immediate
  • self-satisfying
  • meet the needs of the student
  • attainable by the student
