Do you exercise mindfulness in the practice room? Brown & Ryan (2003) extolled the value sustained consciousness in the present moment, called mindfulness. Self-monitoring, such as self-reflection, requires the musician to react and respond during the practice experience (McPherson & Zimmerman, 2002; Zimmerman, 1998).
Mindfulness is achieved by being:
- self-reflecting (evaluative review)
- internally aware
- highly attentive
- openly receptive from moment-to-moment
